The 2026 NBA playoffs commence on Saturday, promising an explosive start to the action. As expected, all eyes will be on the Oklahoma City Thunder as they seek to be the first back-to-back champions since the Golden State Warriors won it in 2017 and 2018.
OKC defeated the Indiana Pacers last year to win its first championship and will be looking to run it back again. While winning the championship back-to-back is a difficult challenge, OKC is actually good for it.
Not only are they the favourites, but they were also the best-performing team in the regular season. They finished with a 64-18 record to win the Western Conference and also ended the regular season with more wins than any other team.

However, while OKC remains the team to beat, the Thunder will be wary of a young core San Antonio Spurs Team. Having been in purgatory for some time, the Spurs finally clinched their first playoff berth since the 2018-2019 season.
Led by the future face of the league, Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs finished with a 62-20 record, their first 60-win season since the 2016-2017 season.
Although the Spurs' lack of playoff experience could count against them, they will fancy their chances against OKC, having beaten them four times in the regular season.
Another team from the West that could challenge for the title is the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets might have finished with a 54-28 record, but they have a deep team that could cause any team trouble.
Also, with Nikola Jokic playing at an MVP level, anything is possible for the Nuggets. The rest of the top six seeds in the West include the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Lakers finished fourth, but their progress depends on how far Lebron James can carry them until the duo of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves return from injury. The Lakers face the Rockets in the first round, but the Rockets' inability to win close games could cost them this series.
Nonetheless, the Rockets are favourites to progress, although that could change if Luka and Reaves return before the series ends.
As for the Timberwolves, they finished sixth in the Western Conference and face a difficult route to the final.
The Wolves have a first-round matchup against the Nuggets and will likely have to beat the Spurs and OKC if they are to play in the NBA finals. This might be a tall order, even for a team that has Anthony Edwards.
The last two matchups in the Western Conference will be decided when the play-ins are concluded. OKC will face either the Phoenix Suns or the Portland Trail Blazers, while the Spurs will face one of the Suns, Blazers, Warriors, or the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Eastern Conference may not be as deep as the Western Conference, but the playoffs will also be one to watch.
The Detroit Pistons finished first in the conference with a 60-22 record, clinching the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2007. The Pistons crashed out in the first round last year but will be looking to reach at least the Conference finals this time.

However, if they are to reach that stage, they might have to get past the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were not supposed to be here, but they have managed to exceed expectations.
After Jason Tatum went down with an Achilles injury last season, this year was supposed to be a gap year for the Celtics, but they have been brilliant.
The Celtics finished with a 56-26 record and will be dangerous in the playoffs after Tatum returned ahead of schedule. In fact, the Celtics are the favourites to come out of the East.
However, if any team can stop the Celtics, it is the New York Knicks. The Knicks beat the Celtics last year and have title aspirations once again this year.
They finished third in the East this year and have a first-round date with the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are one of the in-form teams going into the playoffs, but they should pose no problem for the Knicks.
Another team with championship ambitions is the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs showed their ambition by trading for James Harden. Harden is a player who elevates their ceiling and will fancy their chances against a Raptors side with no firepower in round one.
The play-ins will determine the outcome of the rest of the East playoffs on Friday night.

NBA Playoffs Series Betting vs Game Betting
In playoff betting, you can bet on both the series and the games. A series is a best-of-seven matchup between the teams, with the winner progressing to the next round.
For example, you can bet on the Nuggets to win their first-round series against the Wolves or the Lakers to win theirs against the Rockets.
It is important to note that the odds for each series change after each match. For example, if the Wolves win the first game against the Nuggets, their chances of progressing will go up, reducing their odds.
2026 NBA Playoff Odds
The Thunder are still favourites to win the championship. The defending champions are priced at 2.15 to win it again ahead of the Spurs, who are priced at 6.00.
The Celtics are next at 6.50 ahead of the Nuggets (11.00) and the Cavaliers (13.00). As for the two conferences, the Celtics, at 2.50, are favoured to win the East, ahead of the Cavs (4.00) and the Knicks (5.75).
In the West, OKC remains the favourite at 1.65, ahead of the Spurs at 4.20. Nuggets are the third favourite at 6.50, ahead of the Rockets (23.00).
Remember, you can place your bets on all these teams and games at Housebets.
Best NBA Playoff Betting Markets
